F1 Outdoors 150 Endurance Race

There could not have been a better day to run the 2011 F1 Outdoors 150. Temperature was perfect, as you can see not a cloud in the sky. The F1 Outdoors 150 uses a modified LeMans start and a random draw to determine the starting order. The starting order was a premonition of things to come, starting on the pole was the winner of the last two Ironman races Alex Gamache. At the start, Ricardo Nunes jumped to the lead while Alex got into a good rhythm, her plan was to get through the majority of the race with no damage to her kart. Alex always stayed close to the front, not letting the leaders get to far away. Her plan was working well, 1 pit stop and not pushing her equipment. Once she she got closer to the end of the race, it was time to go to the front. Her pace was very quick and the leaders were in sight. With only a handful of laps left, Alex was bearing down on the leader Ricardo Nunes when Ricardo suffered a drive line failure. This is what Alex needed to secure here 3rd straight endurance race overall victory and the Junior class victory.

Haylen and Davies Win the Red Bull Kart Fight

In front of a standing-room-only crowd at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show, Racers Edge Motorsports driver Jan Heylen claimed victory in the Red Bull Kart Fight. Driving a Rotax-powered CRG kart as part of the CRG USA team, ex-Champ Car World Series racer Heylen claimed his second-straight victory in the annual karting all-star race. Other drivers taking part this year included Ryan Briscoe, Alex Tagliani, AJ Allmendinger, E.J. Viso, Jay Howard, Townsend Bell and Martin Plowman.

Qualifying fourth, Belgian native Heylen secured a second row starting position for the Pre-Final with Viso taking pole followed by Howard and Allmendinger. At the start of the Pre-Final, Howard got the jump on Viso going into Turn 1, with Heylen following Howard into second place. Heylen glued himself to Howard's rear bumper and waited until the last turn of the last lap to make the pass to claim victory by a tenth of a second and, more importantly, garner the all-important pole position for the Final.

At the start of the Final, Howard got the jump on Heylen from his second starting position, settling into the lead with Heylen closely following. Heylen constantly looked for an opportunity to make a pass, getting alongside Howard on several occasions but not enough to make a clean move for the lead. Finally, with four laps remaining in the race, Heylen snuck past Howard. Once into the lead and with a relatively clear track in front of him, Heylen built a small cushion over Howard that he held to the checkered flag.

"What a great event!" exclaimed Heylen. "Jay drove very well and made me work for everything I got. Special thanks go to CRG USA for their tremendous support and to Dave Davies for making the trip to Florida. Dave and I won this race together the last time we raced here at PRI. For sure I'll be back next year and try for a three-peat."

Since losing his Champ Car ride following the IndyCar merger, Heylen has run a handful of Grand-Am and Indy Lights races, but says he will be a regular in both the Rolex GT and Continental Tire Cup next season.

"I will be driving a Racers Edge Motorsports Dodge Viper in the Grand-Am Rolex Series and a Dodge Challenger in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. Doug Peterson will be my co-driver, and I know Doug will be an excellent teammate for what should be a very exciting and busy season. It will be great to be racing again in the States with iconic cars like the Viper and the Challenger

RJ's Thoughts

During this time of the year I am reviewing what is happening in all of the ventures that I am involved with. In 2011 we have taken a new approach with SSC East. Now known as CRG America, more closely branding us with CRG is important for our future.

Dave and I believe that the Sonik line of engines once approved by the sanctioning bodies will be the best engines out there for the money! We are looking forward to seeing people racing these engines.

The other thing that we focused on is improved communiction to the dealers and end users of our products and services. I think that these newsletters are a great way of doing that.

The last part of the business that we are putting increased focus on for 2011 is our engine building and blueprinting. Powertek Racing Engines is THE company you want to have building your horsepower. We do it right, and our results prove it.

2011 at F1 Outdoors was a good year, increased attendance and some very good events helped. The Rmax races and the F1 Outdoors 150 has really showcased our facility.

New Jersey Motorsports Park is always busy. We have had some outstanding events that have put NJMP in the forefront of racing facilities in North America.

Lastly the NJMP Racing School has been an incredible success. Utilizing the VW Jetta TDI Cup race cars. These cars offer an fantastic experience for all drivers, from expierinced to novice drivers.

I am very excited for 2012!

I hope that everyone has a safe and happy holiday season. We will see you at the track!
