Kristina Vorndran DD2 National ChampionJul 28, 2011
Kristina Vonrdran wins Rotax US National Karting Championship, Earns Ticket to World Finals in Abu Dhabi. Tooele, UT, July 23, 2011. Persistence and hard work helped Kristina Vorndran win the US Rotax Grand Nationals, making her the first female US National Rotax champion. In only her second season in the Rotax shifter kart class, Kristina took the final victory after a long week of practice sessions and qualification races in 95+ ° weather on the 0.9 mile, 20 turn track at Miller Motorsports Park. Even though Kristina had never tested at the track before - unlike many other competitors - she was running among the top drivers with her CRG Dark Rider, from day one. However, technical problems including a DQ in a heat race due to a broken radiator mount, lost Kristina a front row position in the main event. Nevertheless, after a good start she caught the leader within a few laps and they both broke away from the rest of the field, trading fastest laps between them. Kristina made her pass halfway through the race -- braking very late into a hair pin -- and pulled away, setting fast lap of the race as she took the lead. Winning the national championship earns Kristina a spot on Team USA for the Rotax world finals in Abu Dhabi later this year, where national champions from more than 60 countries around the world will battle it out for the ultimate title. Kristina started karting at F1 Boston’s indoor karting facility and got her first CRG race kart from SSC East / CRG-America.
